FERRUCCIO SARDELLA

FERRUCCIO SARDELLA received degrees in Fine Art and Communications from the Ontario College of Art and Design before continuing art history studies in Florence, Italy. He subsequently worked in the design and editorial illustration field where he obtained numerous high profile commissions throughout North America and Europe. In 2004, Ferruccio became artist-in-resident for Evergreen Brick Works — an adaptive reuse project built from the brownfield of the Don Valley Brick Works in Toronto, Canada. In this position, he performed in a variety of roles — from producer of public artworks and exhibit designer to architectural design team member and interpretive planner. He also assembled interdisciplinary teams to engage in an array of unique, site specific projects. In 2012, Ferruccio emerged from his residency as an experienced multi-disciplinary artist with a methodology for creating thoughtful artworks that are provocative, innovative and playful. In addition to his studio practice, he looks to integrate his artistic approach into wider planning and programming processes. Ferruccio is also an accomplished musician/composer and explores musical sensibilities within his art.

METHODOLOGY

Ferruccio’s art practice explores issues of personal and collective identity. He seeks to construct a sense of authenticity through revealing interdependencies to environment, circumstance and chance. Through his work, Ferruccio looks to both inform and provoke inquiry into the subjects he considers. He sees art as holding the potential to express intangible qualities and conditions that speak to our understanding of self and reality, thereby affording the opportunity for contemplation and validation.
